Congress Member of Legislative Assembly Sukhdev Panse and 64 others were arrested in Betul, Madhya Pradesh in connection with the 2007 Pardhi case that is being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation, police said on Tuesday. Panse, along with 64 others, surrendered at the Multai police station on Monday and the police arrested them, following issuance of an arrest warrant against them by a special CBI court.
The wooden structure at Rehatgaon near Timarni in this district was erected for the election campaign in favour of Sukhdev Panse, Congress candidate for Lok Sabha by-election in Betul constituency.
State Congress president and former chief minister Kamal Nath has been fielded from his home-turf Chhindwara, from where he is currently the legislator.
In its first list for the upcoming assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, the ruling BJP has focused on seats it lost in 2018 and some of them even in 2013, and has reposed faith in 14 candidates, including three former ministers, who lost last time.
